On the basis of the Hong Kong branch of the Guangdong Professional Union for Cantonese Opera Performers, The Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong (CAAHK) was re-registered as a professional organisation for Cantonese Opera performers Hong Kong in 1953. While developing the art of traditional Cantonese Opera and protecting the rights and welfare of fellow performers, CAAHK is committed to establish and protect the survival mechanism of Cantonese Opera in Hong Kong, to strengthen the inheritance system and enhance the communication with various stakeholders in the society, thereby passing down the tradition of Cantonese Opera in a dynamic fashion.

Two classic Cantonese Operas, The Legend of Purple Hairpin from the civil category and Thunderous Battle Drums from the martial category, will be performed in their original full-length version on two evenings respectively. The cast of ‘six pillars’ will feature both veteran and young actors, aims to present the new generation of local Cantonese Opera talents and demonstrate the successful passing of the baton from the older to the younger generation of Hong Kong Cantonese Opera.
