The MTR is the fastest and most convenient way to get around Hong Kong. Trains are frequent, clean and easy to navigate. Contactless credit and debit card payments are accepted, while an Octopus Card offers a discounted fares.

Double-decker bus network covers almost every part of the city, including areas not directly served by the MTR. Simply tap your Octopus card, credit card, mobile wallet or cash when boarding. Please note that no change is given when pay with cash.

 

Bus service are operated by two companies:

Red minibuses mostly just accept coins and cash, while green minibuses accept Octopus Card as well. They travel to everywhere but do not have stops announcement, passengers are advised to pay attention to the route.

Most taxi accept cash, while some may also accept Octopus Card and other electronic payments. Fares are metered, with surcharges applicable for tunnels and luggage. There are 3 types of taxis running around different territories in Hong Kong:

• Red Taxi: Kowloon and Hong Kong Island
• Green Taxi: New Territories
• Blue Taxi: Islands
