Synopsis

A vibrant celebration of life and mortality

Bloody Moon is a wild, vibrant, and sensual dance performance brimming with humour. Here, a group dances their final number while embracing life in all its splendour – aware of life's finality but ready to step over the nearing edge with dizzying sensuality.

Bloody Moon is inspired by the writings of the French thinker Georges Bataille on desire, eroticism, liberation, and madness. Having premiered at the Copenhagen Summer Dance Festival (outdoor version) and the Royal Danish Theatre (indoor version), it marks Marina Mascarell's first creation as Artistic Director for Danish Dance Theatre.

DANISH DANCE THEATRE

Danish Dance Theatre (Dansk Danseteater) is Denmark's national company for contemporary dance, home to 10 carefully chosen, full-time dancers. From their base at the Royal Danish Opera House, they bring world-class dance to audiences across the country, with a special focus on bold new productions for both children and adults. Their performances are fearless, uncompromising, and deeply rooted in the present moment – works that dare to mirror the world we live in with striking vulnerability, sparking thought, and inviting questions. Danish Dance Theatre is celebrated for its dynamic and diverse repertoire, ranging from grand productions at the Royal Danish Theatre, open air festivals, and events to more intimate performances that challenge and inspire. Founded in 1981, Danish Dance Theatre has grown into a major cultural institution. It receives funding from the Ministry of Culture and support for individual performances from private and public foundations. Since April 2023, the Spanish choreographer Marina Mascarell has been the company's Artistic Director.
