Synopsis
Asian Premiere
A pointed, poignant drama about the unseen roots of abuse
When her daughter confesses responsibility for the death of the school dog, a mother turns a parent–teacher meeting into a dangerous discussion.
Inspired by the playwright’s experiences with bullying during childhood and adolescence, the piece examines abuse within educational systems, with a focus on silence, normalisation, and institutional responsibility. The writing of the play serves as a means of healing from traumatic experiences and an opportunity to resonate with abuse survivors who encounter the play.

About the Artist
Arte un rato
Founded in 2021, Arte un rato (Art, Awhile) is a Chilean production company that develops contemporary theatre, audiovisual projects, and creative educational initiatives.
In theatre, Arte un rato is developing a trilogy written and directed by Catalina Ceresuela that investigates abuse and power dynamics across different social contexts. The first work of the trilogy, An Isolated Case (2023), won Chile’s XIX National Playwriting Award and has toured major Chilean venues and festivals, including the Santiago a Mil International Festival. The second work of the trilogy, It’s a Fire (2024), continues this research by shifting the focus to abuse and power dynamics within a corporate context, expanding the thematic and formal scope of the project. The third and final part of the trilogy will begin development in 2026.
Arte un rato emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic through multidisciplinary online workshops for young people. Its founding impulse was to foster the kind of creative space its founders lacked as teenagers: a space where creativity could be practiced as a tool for resilience, reflection, and personal agency. This perspective continues to shape and inform the company’s artistic practice.
